Ian specialises in personal injury, clinical negligence, landlord and tenant/property and professional negligence.
He has extensive experience of claims arising in the fields of employers' and public liability, road traffic, highways and travel. He is instructed in high value claims involving traumatic brain injuries and serious spinal injuries. Recent reported cases include South West Strategic Health Authority v Bay Island Voyages  2 Lloyd’s Rep. 652 and Philip Allen v Cornwall Council  EWHC 1461.
His knowledge of property law complements his personal injury practice in areas such as disrepair, defective premises, highways, private rights of way and multiple ownership or occupation. He has extensive experience of claims involving local authorities and NHS Trusts.
Ian also practices in the field of clinical negligence and, as with his personal injury practice, is led in a number of cases by silks in chambers.
Ian's housing/landlord and tenant practice involves acting for local authorities, housing associations, private landlords and tenants in relation to commercial and residential tenancies.
Ian is a contributing editor of Atkins Court Forms Personal Injury volumes. He regularly blogs on personal injury and procedural matters (piBlawg). He is a contributor to 'Advanced Civil Litigation in Practice' (3rd ed. Oxford University Press 2005) and has a number of quantum judgments published in Kemp & Kemp. He gives talks on his areas of practice.
